You can include a provision in your will that allows someone to live in your property after you’ve died, either:
- for the rest of their life
- for a fixed period of time
- up to the happening of a certain event (for example, marriage, cohabitation)
After this, the property will pass to a named beneficiary or beneficiaries. This type of arrangement can take the form of a ‘right to occupy’ or a life interest trust.
To make this sort of provision in your will, you’ll need to use our telephone wills service. We’ll run some checks to confirm how the house is owned and make sure the correct wording is used in your will.
