In the England and Wales, there is no legal obligation to leave anything to your child or children in your will. If you are thinking of excluding a child from your will, take time before you write your will to make sure you are comfortable with your decision.
If possible, it could also be useful to talk to the people affected, so this doesn't come as a shock later. Talking now may also make them less likely to contest your will in the future.
We'll ask you to name all your children in your will
As part of the online will writing journey, we will ask you to name all your living children, so we can record them in your will.
Naming all your children does not mean that you have to leave them a gift in your will. But naming them all is important, as it shows that you’ve considered all of your children at the time you made your will.
There is a separate section of the will where you can explain why you may not have included your children as beneficiaries.
