In England and Wales, you'll need two witnesses who will watch you sign your will, and then sign it too. In Scotland, you just need one witness.
Your witnesses must be:
- over 18
- someone you know and trust
Your witnesses should not be:
- a beneficiary in your will
-
married to a beneficiary in your will
If you are elderly, recently bereaved or have a terminal, mental or other serious illness, it’s recommended by law that you ask a medical practitioner, such as your GP, to be one of your witnesses.
